Dudes, you would not believe how much it is raining right now. There are river rapids on the ranch. Spring Break starts on Monday and runs for two weeks, and I'm a bit concerned. Just a bit. Because our to-do list is a mile long... chickens and rabbits to process, garden beds to dig and plant, a house to paint, an outside dining area to build... and if it snows or pours every single day, I might just end up a weeping mess in front of the woodstove.
I like the rain, don't get me wrong. But I've got shit to do!
Here are some reads I enjoyed during the month of March. But first, a little shameless self-promotion: I have a flickr page now. You can find the whole lot of my photos over there.
:::This post from Small Footprint Family strikes an issue that is close to my heart. I dislike the whole concept of "superfoods," and it's important to know that these imported products carry a serious social and environmental cost.
:::(While you're over there at Small Footprint Family you might as well check out this older post about agave nectar. This is old news by now, but I still like her succinct explanation.)
:::The vegetarian and real food communities are all abuzz about the MEAT WILL KILL YOUR ASS DEAD headlines from last week. Here are two excellent articles that explain why you might simply snort and move along.
:::I can't tell you how much I love this project. And this one, too.
:::"Real food advocates can and should reach beyond our kitchens to institute bigger change." Yes, yes, yes! Like this!
:::Everything you ever wanted to know about sardines.
:::I grew up on margarine and it took me years, YEARS to like the taste of butter. Now I slather it on everything. Grass-fed butter is better!
:::I've never loved the term "self-sufficiency" (or homesteading, but that's a topic for another day). Check out this excellent post from Feather + Anchor that de-emphasizes the "self-."
:::Even whole fruit can be problematic for people with blood sugar irregularities. Here is a list of fruits with a lesser glycemic load.
:::Another minimalist manifesto. So many people are embracing less and appreciating more...
:::Paleo Pepper posts on what you need to do to lose that last five or ten pounds. She is a righteous sister.
Hope yours has been a great month!

Thanks a lot for the shout out! Love your blog too! I write "Foodprint" articles often (on superfoods, agave, sugar, canola, soy, etc.), and also lots of real food recipes. I hope you'll be back soon and often!
I LOVE this post and not just because you shared my minimalist manifesto. There is such a wealth of reading goodness here I just had a nerd-gasm. Pinning for later. Thanks dude! Great blog, by the way.
Thanks so much for the shout out, Chandelle. I hope others find Fair Food as encouraging as I did. Btw, your courage and persistency in making a better quality of life for your family by growing your own food is both inspiring and commendable!
Your flickr photos are gorgeous! Is it okay if I share them on Pinterest?
Donnell Allan, I have no idea how Pinterest works. I'm afraid that I will fall into it and never find my way out, so I haven't tried it. :) But you are welcome to share my photos so long as they are credited to me. Thanks!
