I'm Chandelle, and this is my place to explore the experiences of growing food, raising animals, loving the earth, living locally, and redefining sufficiency in an age of decline. (That sounded fancy!)
I live in Mendocino County, California. I work in development at the Waldorf school where my partner, Jeremy, is a teacher. Together, we share the pleasures of parenting Isaiah (7) and Willow (5) while renting a one-room cabin on a 2500-acre ranch. We're building a large garden and raising chickens and rabbits. We hope to add sheep to our repertoire in the next year or two, and maybe a milking goat. We have an 85-pound dog named Tuna, who likes to eat our chickens.
A few random facts about me: I love science fiction, hot coffee, iced tea, wild plants, bonfires, graphic novels, the ocean, and picking blackberries. I feel most comfortable in small towns, forests, and farmers markets... cities make me anxious. I like insects and behavioral science and the banjo. I'm a feminist, a libertarian socialist, and a nutrition geek. I have a "thing" about coyotes. I was vegan for several years and now I'm making up for lost time by trying a new cheese every week. I'm training as a home funeral guide. Yoga is essential for my mental health. I'm autodidactic and regret the years I wasted in conventional education. My dream is to spend a few years living in Oaxaca or Chiapas. I swear a lot and am generally low-brow about most things. I know absolutely nothing about art history or jazz, and I could eat my body weight in hot wings if given half a chance.
